The past few years have seen a tremendous explosion in discoveries showing that the immune system of bacteria is much more complex and diverse than originally thought. These discoveries led to the realization that beyond CRISPR and restriction enzymes, microbes encode dozens of new defense systems exhibiting an enormous variety of defensive mechanisms.

The purpose of the 2023 Symposium on the Immune System of Bacteria is to bring together the emerging community of researchers studying “beyond CRISPR” aspects of bacterial immunity. Topics that will be covered include defense systems such as CBASS, prokaryotic argonautes, retrons, chemical defense systems, and other new systems, as well as defense island biology and evolutionary aspects of bacterial immunity.

The Symposium will begin on February 28th, 9:00, and will end in the evening of March 2nd. An organized day trip in Israel is planned for March 3rd (optional).

The program will comprise talks from invited speakers, as well as short talks selected from submitted abstracts.
